THEN JESUS CAME

One sat alone beside the highway begging,
His eyes were blind, the light he could not see;
He clutched his rags and shivered in the shadows,
Then Jesus came and bade his darkness flee.

From home and friends the evil spirits drove him,
Among the tombs he dwelt in misery;
He cut himself as demon pow’rs possessed him,
Then Jesus came and set the captive free.

Un-clean! Un-clean the leper cried in torment,
The deaf, the dumb, in helplessness stood near;
The fever raged, disease had gripped its victim,
Then Jesus came and cast out ev’ry fear.

Their hearts were sad as in the tomb they laid him,
For death had come and taken him away;
Their night was dark and bitter tears were falling,
Then Jesus came and night was turned to day.

So men today have found the Savior able,
They could not conquer passion, lust and sin;
Their broken hearts had left them sad and lonely,
Then Jesus came and dwelt, Himself, within.

REFRAIN

When Jesus comes the tempters pow’r is broken;
When Jesus comes the tears are wiped away.
He takes the gloom and fills the life with glory,
For all is changed when Jesus comes to stay.

The Word of God

The Bible
The Bible contains the word of God, the state of man, the way of salvation, the doom of sinners, and the happiness of believers.

It's doctrines are holy, it's precepts are binding, it's
histories are true and it's decisions immutable.
Read it to be wise, believe it to be safe, and practice it to be holy.
It contains light to direct you, food to support you, and comfort to cheer you.
It is a travelers map, the pilgrim's staff, the pilots compass, the soldiers sword, and the Christian charter.
Here, paradise is restored, heaven opened and the gates
of hell disclosed.
Christ is the grand object; our good it's design, and the Glory of God it's end.
It should fill the memory, rule the heart, and guide the feet.
Read it slowly, frequently, prayerfully. It is a mine of wealth,
a paradise of glory, a river of judgment.
It is given to you in life, will be opened at the judgment, and remembered forever.

It involves the highest responsibility, will reward the
greatest labor, and condemns all who trifle with it's sacred contents.
